I'VE DOWNLOADED GRANT MORRISON'S RUN AND READ ABOUT HALF SO FAR, AND I'VE STARTED DOWNLOADING DEADPOOL'S APPEARANCES BECAUSE HE SOUNDED LIKE A COOL CHARACTER WHEN I WAS BROWSING WIKI.

NEEDS MOAR RECS >:(

X-MEN FROM THE '60S IF YOU LOVE STAN LEE'S RIDICULOUSNESS, SILLY HUMOR, AND FUN BLACK-AND-WHITE DRAWINGS. I LOVE IT BUT THIS IS NOT WHERE I STARTED WITH X-MEN...

...I STARTED WITH MORRISON, "NEW X-MEN," WHICH I REC IF YOU LIKE THE FIRST TWO MOVIES. HE HAS THAT SAME BALANCE OF HUMOR, SFX, ANGST/SRSBZNS, AND CULTURAL CRITIQUE, PLUS I FOUND HIS CHARACTERIZATION REALLY EASY TO UNDERSTAND JUST FROM WHAT I'D SEEN IN THE MOVIES.

X-STATIX: REC'D IF YOU WANT HILARIOUS PARODY OF/HOMAGE TO MARVEL'S USUAL "SOAP OPERA SUPERHEROES" SHTIK. GREAT CHARACTERS WHO SHOULD'VE BECOME ARCHETYPAL; LULZY STORYLINES; JUST TOTALLY FUN. I THINK IT STARTS IN THE TRADE PAPERBACKS WITH "X-FORCE: THE FINAL CHAPTER," BUT I COULD BE WRONG. THE ART IS REALLY POP AND KIND OF NEON AND FUN. AVOID THE PRINCESS DI STORYLINE--I DON'T REMEMBER WHAT IT'S CALLED, THOUGH.

X-MEN: FIRST CLASS COULD BE A FUN WAY TO DIP YOUR TOES INTO X-MEN COMICS. IT'S A KIND OF RETELLING OF THE ADVENTURES OF THE VERY FIRST X-TEAM WHEN THEY WERE JUST STARTING OUT AS LOL TEENIES, WHICH MEANS YOU DON'T HAVE TO DEAL WITH NEARLY FIFTY YEARS' WORTH OF BACKSTORY RIGHT OFF THE BAT (THOUGH THERE ARE LOTS OF LITTLE REFERENCES HERE AND THERE TO DELIGHT YOU IF YOU'RE ALREADY A LONG-TIME FAN).

IT'S VERY LIGHT-HEARTED AND FUN, SUITABLE FOR LOL TOS TYPES WITHOUT BEING TOO KIDDIE-Y FOR THE REST OF US, AND COLLEEN MCCOOVER'S ARCHIE COMICS-STYLE INTERLUDES IN EACH ISSUE ARE SO LOLDORABLE THEY DESERVE THEIR OWN STAND-ALONE TITLE. THE ISSUE WITH JEAN GREY CAREER-SHADOWING SUE STORM OF THE FANTASTIC FOUR FOR A DAY IS ESPECIALLY WORTH CHECKING OUT IF YOU'RE LOOKING FOR POSITIVE FEMALE CHARACTERS AND RELATIONSHIPS IN COMICS!

HERE ARE ALL THE ENTRIES TAGGED WITH THE TITLE OVER AT SCANS_DAILY, IF YOU'D LIKE TO CHECK IT OUT:

EXCALIBUR WAS AN AWESOME, AWESOME COMIC WHEN ALAN DAVIS WAS INVOLVED, AND MOSTLY MEDIOCRE WHEN HE WASN'T. JUST FUN, LIGHTHEARTED, SWASHBUCKLY ADVENTURE THROUGH TIME AND ENDLESS PARALLEL WORLDS. A+
